Curriculum Adoption

Missouri Priority StandardsĀ 

I was on the DESE workgroup that identified the Missouri Priority Standards for Mathematics.

Priority Standards were chosen by:

  • Establishing the major work of the grade
  • Selecting skills that were foundations for future work and culmination of grade-level work
  • Focus on reasoning about quantity as opposed to calculation
  • Focus on analyzing and justifying understanding of concepts

  • Discussing the role of MO priority standards in your local mathematics instruction.
  • Aligning curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on Missouri Priority Standards.
  • Providing research and guidance on local curriculum selection.

Policy Analysis and Systems Alignment

  • Developing a district vision for mathematics instruction
  • Analyze existing systems, structures, and policies including alignment of grade-level mathematics, special education, and intervention curriculum and instruction
  • Provide research-based recommendations for changes that will support access to grade level mathematics for all students
  • Lead or co-plan stakeholder committee meetings
  • Deliver a final report with recommendations for aligning systems and departments for a common goal including and next steps
